I can’t believe it’s already time for Vail’s famous Gourmet on the Gore event!Gourmet on the Gore tasting

It kicks off with a tasting tour from 6-9pm on the Friday evening of Labor Day weekend; this is essentially a culinary and beverage progressive with stops at some of Vail’s best restaurants. At each one, we get to enjoy a signature drink and some tasty hors d’oevres. This event reminds me each year that we are surrounded by world-class food and drink, and I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to enjoy them in our world-class setting…in all four seasons.

Summer is waning, and the air is turning crisp. As I hike along the various trails—today I did Berry Picker and rode the gondola down—I begin to see touches of red and orange in among the greens of the foliage. The sky is blue, as it is most days of the year in our enchanted valley, but I can feel the shift beginning to take place, and it sends a shiver of delight up my spine to think of the glorious autumn we are undoubtedly in for…and I even allow myself to anticipate the snow-filled winter that has been forecast by the almanac for 2017.

Gourmet on the Gore Sweet BasilSo as the kids make their way back to school, and the aspens just begin to flirt with the changes in store for them, I think: what better way to usher in the new season and relish in the delicacies of Vail Valley than to be a part of Gourmet on the Gore? The weekend includes everything from yoga to live music, and it culminates with my favorite: Brunch Off Bridge Street. Delicious eats paired with bubbly mimosas and savory bloody marys in the morning and a variety of wines and spirits in the holiday afternoon—Yum!
