Golfing in Vail ValleyThere are those moments in the Vail Valley that the beauty of the mountains and warm smiles from close friends and family make you realize you’ve uncovered a secret way of life.

Hitting one of the local yet world renowned golf courses on a sunny day is one of my favorite. Almost four decades ago the Faessler family came from Bavaria and brought with them their family’s long dedication to providing these alpine moments. While their Sonnenalp Hotel is quite well appreciated, it would be a mistake to miss out on their perfectly appointed Sonnenalp Country Club—a place to escape to a round of golf, Colorado dining, poolside relaxation, a well-appointed fitness center, and the distinguished tennis club.

One of the best ways to take in a round is on a warm summer evening just before the mountain ranges begin to scream their sunset colors across Beaver Creek and Arrowhead ski areas. Before stepping out of the private locker room onto the 18 hole course, you can spend some time with their staff of PGA Professionals to properly size clubs or even take some golf lessons.  As usual the Faessler family has thought of everything, so if you or any of your friends need to update your apparel you’ll find top of the line gear in their well-appointed golf shop.

Consistently rated one of the top golf clubs in Colorado, the Sonnenalp golf club course’s 7,000 yards will leave you relaxed and ready for a Colorado dining experience. The Harvest restaurant at the club offers a light breakfast for early golfers, and a full lunch and dinner menu. Complementing the elk, lamb or striped bass on the menu with one of the fine wines, cocktails or local craft beer selections with friends will round out a long day on the course. Just be sure to take advantage before the sun begins to set on summer.
